The rise in cases of identity theft has made the public more aware of the dangers associated with disposing of personal papers containing identifying information such as account numbers and Social Security numbers. Tossing bank statements, old bills, paycheck stubs and similar items into the trash can provide a treasure trove of information for potential thieves.
First Financial Bank, with the assistance of Data Management Shredding, will sponsor a paper-shredding event Saturday. Personal paper documents that are no longer needed and that contain information such as Social Security numbers, account numbers, medical information, or other identifying numbers or information are good candidates for shredding. Individuals may bring their documents to the site and watch while they are destroyed.
