TERRE HAUTE — By unanimous vote, Sharon Miles fulfilled her goal of resuming her husband’s seat on the Terre Haute City Council.
The 10 Democratic precinct committeemen in the 6th district unanimously voted for Sharon to take the seat during a caucus in the Vigo County Annex Tuesday evening. Sharon Miles wanted to serve the remainder of the term of her husband Chuck Miles, who died April 18.
She was the only candidate considered for the vote. Candidate Marcia Jackson, who is assistant to the mayor of Terre Haute, wrote a letter to caucus members withdrawing from consideration.
Dan “Buford” Lockard, who also is running against Chuck Miles in the Democratic primary, withdrew from the running during the caucus.
