NEWS UPDATE: Explosion at Duke Energy's Wabash River Generating Station

Staff report

TERRE HAUTE — Emergency personnel responded to a report of an explosion with injuries at Duke Energy's Wabash River Generating Station at 450 Bolton Road in West Terre Haute about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Tribune-Star reporters on the scene report that two employees were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after a small explosion in the plant's coal mill.

Duke Energy employee Garth Woodcox, production manager at the Wabash River power station, described the injuries as minor and said the employees were conscious, walking and talking, and that the company wanted them to go to the hospital as a precaution. No cause of the explosion was immediately known.

Sugar Creek Fire and Rescue volunteers and Terre Haute TransCare reported to the scene.
