Terre Haute to host IHSAA Cross Country Championship through 2011

TERRE HAUTE — Commissioner Blake Ress announced today a five-year agreement, in principle, with Terre Haute North High School and the Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau to host the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals.

The agreement calls for the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course and the Wabash Valley Sports Center to serve as the host site for the event through 2011.

The venue has served as the site of the state championship races each of the last three years and has also hosted the NCAA Division I Men’s & Women’s Championships in four of the last five seasons.

The date for next year’s championship girls and boys races is October 27, 2007.

“The LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course is an outstanding venue for cross country and the Terre Haute community have been excellent hosts to the IHSAA State Championships the last few years,” said IHSAA Commissioner Blake Ress. “We are pleased to be able to continue this relationship through 2011.”

"Our community is proud to partner with the IHSAA, Terre Haute North Vigo High School and the LaVern Gibson Championships Cross Country Course,” said David Patterson, Executive Director of the Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau. “I can assure you that the Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau will enhance both visitors and student athletes’ experience."
