Terre Haute’s Austin completes first event in 2012 Paralympics

Terre Haute swimmer Evan Austin just missed qualifying for today’s final heat in his first event at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Austin’s first swimming event, the 100 meter men’s butterfly, took place about 5:20 a.m. today Eastern Time. Results show his time of 1:08 was about 2 seconds shy of qualifying for the final race this afternoon.

On his Twitter account, Austin, a 2011 Terre Haute South Vigo High School graduate, said he is glad to have his first event behind him and is looking forward to his next race — the men’s 100 meter breaststroke. Austin will compete in six events at the 2012 Paralympics as part of the 14-member Team USA.
