Ohio abduction suspect’s daughter in Rockville prison

FBI involved in Cleveland abduction case, interested in talking to Emily Castro

ROCKVILLE — Authorities are hoping an offender jailed at the Rockville Correctional Facility can help them piece together details on how three young women were kidnapped, raped and held captive for nearly a decade in Cleveland, Ohio.

Emily Castro, 25, of Fort Wayne, is the daughter of Ariel Castro, a suspect in the case. Ariel Castro was charged Wednesday with four counts of kidnapping — covering all three captives and the daughter born to one of them while she was held — and three counts of rape against the three women.

The trio of kidnap victims was rescued from the Cleveland home of Ariel Castro after one of the women was able to get free and call police.

Police also arrested his brothers, 50-year-old Onil Castro and 54-year-old Pedro Castro, however, prosecutors brought no charges against his brothers, saying there was no evidence they had any part in the crime.

Douglas S. Garrison, chief communications officer for the Indiana Department of Correction, said he is aware that the FBI has become involved in the investigation of the Cleveland abduction and confinement case, and that they are interested in talking to Emily Castro.

Garrison said, however, that he could not comment on whether FBI agents have gone to the Rockville women’s prison to question Emily Castro. He also said IDOC will have no comment about Castro in regard to the Ohio investigation.

A request for comment about the FBI investigation and potential interviews with Emily Castro was made to the FBI’s Indianapolis field office by the Tribune-Star. There was no immediate response to a separate request by the newspaper for comment from officials at the Rockville Correctional Facility.

Emily Castro was arrested in April 2007 after she attacked her 11-month-old daughter with a knife. She was found guilty of attempted murder, and on Feb. 25, 2008, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The child recovered from the cut to her neck.

According to the IDOC’s offender database, Emily Castro has a release date of Jan. 10, 2019.
