Caucus elects Bionca Gambill to replace Rep. Kreg Battles

Vigo resident will serve as nominee for House District 45

A caucus of precinct committee officials in House District 45 elected Bionca Gambill of southern Vigo County to replace retiring Rep. Kreg Battles in the legislature, and will be sworn in on June 17. She will also serve as the Democratic nominee for the seat in the general election. Gambill will face Republican Bruce Borders on the Nov. 4 ballot.

“Bionca has big shoes to fill. Rep. Battles did an incredible job in service of his constituents, and we will greatly miss his presence in the legislature. But Bionca’s background in the medical field, working closely with people, and involvement in public service make her an excellent candidate for the Indiana House of Representatives,” said Chairman John Zody. “The GOP legislative supermajority has held Indiana back, pushing an out-of-touch agenda that only benefits special interests.”

“I intend to assure the cities and towns of the 45th District that they receive the necessary tax dollars in order to provide essential services — fire and police protection, libraries, streets and roads, and parks,” Gambill said. “I stand firm in opposition to the siphoning of our tax dollars from our public to private and charter schools. I pledge to work with Republicans and fellow Democrats on initiatives to improve the standard of living for Indiana's middle class.”

Gambill earned her nursing degree as a licensed practical nurse from Ivy Tech in 1977. She graduated from Indiana State University in 1994 as a registered nurse with her associate’s degree in nursing. Over the years, she has worked in various roles in the medical field, including as the supervisor of a long-term care facility and as a nursing consultant. An elected township trustee/assessor for Linton Township, Gambill has also served in a number of leadership roles on boards and community organizations.

Gambill and her husband, Chris, have been married for 37 years. They have three children and two grandchildren.

House District 45 covers a large area in southwestern Indiana, which includes all of Sullivan County and parts of Knox, Daviess, Greene and Vigo counties.
