Police release ID of body found in Wabash

Man’s death has been ruled a homicide

TERRE HAUTE — Michael R. Pollack, 50, whose last known residence was Timothy’s House in Terre Haute, has been identified as the homicide victim whose body was recovered from the Wabash River on June 8, said Clark Cottom, chief deputy sheriff for the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.

While Pollack’s last known residence was Timothy’s House, a shelter for men located on Gilbert Avenue, he had not been living there recently, Cottom said.

Pollack was last seen June 3 at 6:27 p.m. walking west on Poplar Street, after he had made a purchase at the Dollar General Store near Ninth and Poplar streets.

Cottom said fingerprints were used to identify the body, as the body had no visible tattoos on the man’s arms, torso or legs and no identification was found on the body.

Pollack’s body was found by boaters about 8 p.m. Sunday in the Wabash River, south of the Interstate 70 bridge, police have said. The body was recovered from the east side of the river.

The body had been in the river for a few days, according to results from an autopsy performed Monday. The autopsy also revealed that within the past seven years, the man had suffered a broken right femur (thigh bone) that would have required medical treatment.

Those with information should contact the sheriff’s department.
