Bluegrass, concert musicians set to entertain

Fish fry, Art Chatter also kick off August events


Marshall Band concert slated for Friday

The Marshall, Ill., City Band, under the direction of Ralph Stewart, will perform a concert at 8 p.m. Aug. 3 on the Clark County Courthouse lawn.

Included in the concert are “March of the Olympians;” “The Glory of the Yankee Navy;” “Raiders March” from The Paramount Motion Picture “Raiders of the Lost Ark;” “The 7th Fleet Band,” composed by former Marshall City Band director Harold Ellshoff; “Best of Sacred Music;” “Two 18th Century Dances;” and “Old Joe Clark.” The concert will continue with “Poet and Peasant Overture,” soundtrack highlights from “Pirates of the Caribbean;” “Jamaican Rumba;” “Prairie Reflections;” and close with the playing of “The Star Spangled Banner.”

All concerts are free and open to the public.

Art Chatter to focus on design

Art Spaces Inc. — Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection will present Art Chatter at 5:15 p.m. Aug. 8.

This informal conversation series takes place each second Wednesday through September at M. Mogger’s Restaurant & Pub. The next discussion topic is “How Do Things Get Designed?” Presenters for this topic will be John Davidson of Distortion Arts and Brian Miller of MillerWhite Marketing.

People of all ages are invited to chat and get to know other people through lively discussion about art. Food and beverage are available for purchase from the Mogger’s menu, featuring their Wednesday special, half-price appetizers and $3 pints.

The final 2012 Art Chatter will be Sept. 12 and will feature the topic “Which Comes First, the Community Identity Or the Art?” Presenters will be Lloyd Benjamin and Jason Saavedra.

Art Spaces Inc. is nonprofit organization whose mission is to create a collection of public outdoor sculpture in Terre Haute and the surrounding region of the Wabash Valley.
