Brazil teacher wins $120K in lottery

INDIANAPOLIS — A Clay County school teacher plans to pay off his mortgage after winning big on a Hoosier Lottery Scratch-off. Jim Latta of Brazil quenched more than his thirst when he stopped for a Diet Pepsi at a Rockville retailer Monday morning. The lucky man bought his soda and a $5 Double Platinum 20X Scratch-off worth $120,000.

“This makes retirement a reality,” Latta said. “I didn’t want to retire while I still have a mortgage to pay. I can pay it all off now. It’s going to be great!”

Latta is an industrial technology teacher. While he doesn’t have immediate plans to retire, he is excited to be able to make concrete plans toward that goal.

After purchasing his ticket at Berry’s Mini Mart at 710 E. Ohio S. in Rockville Monday morning, Latta and his girlfriend, Lainey Kelley, headed straight for Hoosier Lottery Headquarters in Indianapolis and claimed his prize.

“He should change his name from Jim Latta to Jim Lotto,” Kelley said.

Latta is the first lucky player to claim a top prize on the Double Platinum 20X Scratch-off. Five top prizes remain unclaimed at this time.
