Kimmie Collins, a Woodrow Wilson Middle School student competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, made it through Round 3 of the competition this afternoon.
Collins spelled the word “puchero” correctly in Round 3 to remain a part of the national competition. Puchero is a Latin American boiled stew.
Earlier today, Collins, who is speller No. 84, correctly spelled “mynheer,” which is used as a title prefixed to the name of a male Netherlander or Dutch-speaking man.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is taking place near Washington, D.C., and is being broadcast by ESPN.
ESPN2 will cover the semifinals live from 2 to 5 p.m. Thursday. The championship round will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and will be on ESPN.
