A Spark for fundraising: United Way using car to drive donations

TERRE HAUTE — United Way of the Wabash Valley and Terre Haute Chevrolet are partnering for a third annual campaign incentive giveaway.

A five-speed 2013 Chevy Spark 1LS valued at $12,995 was donated to United Way to raise revenue toward its fundraising.

To enter to win the car, people must donate $25 of new money to United Way, said Troy Fears, executive director of United Way of the Wabash Valley. New money means the amount donated is an increase of $25 from any past amount donated.

“If someone donated $125 to United Way last year, then to be eligible for the car, they would need to donate $150 to enter a ballot,” Fears said.

Every $25 amount added to the initial amount donated will result in another ballot submission.

Four people’s names will be randomly drawn in late January and will be invited to a final ceremony in February 2014, to determine the winner.

“The four individuals will come in and grab keys out of a hat,” Fears said. “One of those keys will start the car, and the other three contestants will get a free oil change.”

United Way and Terre Haute Chevrolet have a growing relationship and will continue to do incentive promotions in years to come, said Bill Lutes, vice president and general manager of Terre Haute Chevrolet.

“United Way is a fantastic entity,” Lutes said. “They are very giving and supportive of the community.”

Fears agrees.

“We have a great partnership and we couldn’t thank them enough for donating the car,” Fears added.

Last year, United Way and Terre Haute Chevrolet gave away a 2012 Chevy Sonic LS with 3,015 total entries and 926 individuals eligible for the car. A total of $150,750 was raised from the 3,015 entries for the United Way campaign. Since last year’s campaign, the amount for a ballot has lowered from $50 a submission to $25.

The contest officially ends at 5 p.m. on Jan. 17, 2014. Participants must be legal residents of Indiana or Illinois and 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license.

To donate, visit www.uwwv.org and hit the “donate now” button. For more information call the United Way office at 812-235-6287.
