TERRE HAUTE —
That whirlwind visit to Terre Haute made by comic actor Will Ferrell three months ago had a purpose after all.
An ad for Old Milwaukee beer, featuring Ferrell walking across Seventh and Wabash in downtown Terre Haute, has appeared this week on the History Channel, ESPN and other channels in the local market.

Ferrell was not hired by Pabst Brewing (owners of the Old Milwaukee brand), but created the ads on his own as a fan of the beer, according to a statement from Pabst chief marketing officer Bryan Crowley.
“Will approached Old Milwaukee because he’s a big fan of the beer and thought it would be fun to make the commercials, and we couldn’t be more excited that he did,” Crowley said in a statement provided to the Tribune-Star.
Ferrell and a film crew came to Terre Haute on Sept. 13, stopping at the Crossroads of America intersection, the railroad tracks at 10th Street and Wabash Avenue, a remote spot outside the city, and Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Ferrell filmed similar Old Milwaukee ads in September at Davenport, Iowa, and those spots have been aired in the Davenport market as well.
