Cobblestone to add dividing wall; county lifts stop-work order

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — The developers of Cobblestone Crossing have committed to building an eight-foot masonry wall between that development and Woodgate subdivision.

In response, Vigo County Commissioners have authorized the Vigo County Area Planning Department to immediately lift a stop-work order, effective today.

Commissioners issued a news release late this afternoon.

In the release, commissioners stated they had been made aware that the developers of the current phase of Cobblestone Crossing  submitted plans to the Area Planning Department showing a commitment to construct an eight-foot masonry wall at least 15 feet inside the Cobblestone property line.

The wall will run along the perimeter of the Cobblestone property, which is adjacent to the Woodgate subdivision. The wall will have the same patterned, brick look as the current Cobblestone buildings.

The wall will accommodate surface water drainage and will have columns every 30 to 40 feet. The final engineering and look will be agreed to by the county commissioners and the developers, with notice to the adjacent landowners, “at the appropriate time,” according to the release.

In addition, the developers of Cobblestone have agreed to grandfather any existing encroachments on their property.

Given the new submittal and the additional commitments, commissioners have authorized the the Area Planning Department “to immediately lift the stop-work order which is currently in place,” the news release says.

Cobblestone’s developers will still be required to bring the submittal before the Vigo County Area Plan Commission for the current phase of construction to deal with the issue raised in the last Area Plan Commission meeting.

The construction of the wall will take place at the same time as construction of the current development, and progress will continue to be monitored by the Area Plan Department and commissioners, according to the release.

Commissioners and the Area Plan Department “reserve the right to review this decision as matters progress,” according to the news release.

Cobblestone Crossing is a commercial and residential development on U.S. 41 south of Woodgate and north of Ivy Tech Community College. The development has several new apartment buildings under construction.
