UPDATE: Vigo woman killed in accident near Walmart South

TERRE HAUTE — A Vigo County woman was killed around noon today in an accident on U.S. 41 South at the Walmart entrance, according to police.

The woman’s small pickup truck had been stopped in traffic at the red light in the southbound lane when a semi driver failed to stop for the red light.

The semi driver hit the rear of the victim’s truck and pushed her into the vehcle in front of her; the semi and pickup ended up off the west side of the four-lane highway, just north of the Walmart entrance.

Six vehicles were involved in the crash, and debris remains scattered all over the road.

No one else was injured.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department is investigating with the assistance of Indiana State Police, which has a reconstruction team en route to the scene.

Honey Creek Fire Department also is standing by.

Motorists should avoid the area. It could be an hour or more before the road is reopened.

Debris should be picked up before afternoon rush hour traffic.

The victim’s name is being withheld until family is notified.
