Police investigating Rosedale homicide

Person of interest detained in Georgia, Parke County Sheriff Eslinger says

TERRE HAUTE — Parke County authorities are investigating a homicide at Rosedale.

Sheriff Mike Eslinger confirmed Friday afternoon that police had been called to a home in the 2900 block of West Rosehill Lane on a report of a dead person. He declined to release the name of the female victim pending notification of relatives.

Eslinger also confirmed that a “person of interest” has been detained in the state of Georgia by authorities. He declined to say why that person was in Georgia.

Police received a phone call at about 1:30 p.m. Friday about the homicide, and went to the home to investigate, the sheriff said. After making entry to the home, police found the body. Detectives were called to the scene, along with the Indiana State Police. It was not clear when the homicide occurred.

The house where the homicide occurred is located at the end of a lane in a quiet residential neighborhood. Yellow police tape was stretched across the road, and several police cars were parked in the area.

A police van was pulled up near the house, and investigators could be seen entering and leaving the residence. A representative of the Parke County Prosecutor’s Office was also at the scene.

A few vehicles drove up and parked, and a distraught woman was seen asking investigators if the victim was her friend. The woman said that her friend had recently kicked her husband out of the home.

Another woman also drove up to the scene and asked about another female who lived in the home. A neighbor calmed that woman down and took her into a nearby residence.

Sheriff Eslinger declined to comment when asked if the homicide was the result of a domestic dispute. He said more information would be released as the investigation permitted. Police were expected to remain at the scene several hours Friday night.
