Fair Association highlights attractions

TERRE HAUTE — In less than a month, the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds will be awash in 4-H projects, carnival rides, cotton candy and entertainment as the 2013 Vigo County Fair runs July 7 to 13.

In a preview of the upcoming entertainment and activities already scheduled for this year’s fair, the Wabash Valley Fair Association on Monday night highlighted the corporate sponsors for the week, as well as some of the main attractions.

First Financial Bank is the week-long corporate sponsor, and FFB’s Terry Tevlin said the fair is a great place for family fun and interaction with the rural agricultural community that makes up an important portion of Vigo County’s population.

“The caliber of the shows is phenomenal as well,” Tevlin said, “and a for a community to see this caliber of talent is great.”

The grandstand entertainment announced for the 85th Vigo County Fair features:

• The Booth City Championship IPRA Rodeo on July 7.

• The Demolition Derby presented by Andrews Towing on July 8 and July 13.

• The Vocalist competition presented by the Conservatory of Music and FTC Productions on July 9.

• The UMP Late Model Summer Nationals and UMP Modified competition at the Terre Haute Action Tack on July 10.

• The All Star Monster Trucks presented by Terre Haute Auto & Equipment on July 11.

• The Local Oil Pro Pulling League-Truck and Tractor Pull presented by Beck’s Hybrids on July 12.

For the cost-conscious consumer, tickets are now being sold in advance at the fairgrounds ticket office. Tickets to all six grandstand events (excluding the Wednesday night UMP events) will cost $45 in advance, rather than $55 total if purchased separately on the day of each event.

Ticket prices are listed on the fair association website at www.vigofair.com.

Carnival tickets are also being sold in advance, with ride ticket books being sold at half-price during June.

Weekly parking passes are also being sold in advance. Parking and admission are free before 4 p.m. daily. Parking and walk-in admission after 4 p.m. is $5 per car or per walk-in.

Free entertainment will also be provided each afternoon and evening on the free stage sponsored by Rick’s Smokehouse & Grill and by Pepsi.

Located under the Forrest Sherer Outdoor Pavilion, the entertainment includes a concert by Levi Riggs, a Hoosier vocalist who has performed as opening act for The Band Perry, Easton Corbin, Cold, Ford and others. His performance is at 5 p.m. July 8.

A new activity for youths this year will be the Lowe’s Home Improvement Kids Craft Corner located in the outdoor pavilion. Each day, new projects for children to make and take will be offered free of charge.

Nightly sponsors of the fair events are TSC on Sunday, Harrison College on Monday, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College on Tuesday, Terre Haute Chevrolet on Wednesday, Andrew’s Towing on Thursday, Duke Energy on Friday and Ivy Tech Community College on Saturday.

For more information about this year’s fair and for a schedule of events, go online to www.vigofair.com.
