Vigo polls close, counting begins

TERRE HAUTE — Polls in Vigo County closed at 6 p.m., and the vote counting is underway.

The key local race is for Vigo County Council at large — which features eight Democrats and four Republicans vying for three nominations in each party.

Statewide, the Republican U.S. Senate race featuring incumbent Richard Lugar and challenger Richard Mourdock hold great interests in a battle that has gained national attention.

Another top race is for the Republican and Democratic nominations for 8th District U.S. Congress. Republican incumbent Larry Bucshon faces challenger Kristi Risk. Democrats Thomas Barnett, William Byrk and Dave Crooks are competing for their party’s nomination.
