Pianist to perform, lead workshop ‘Practicing Catalysts’ at ISU

TERRE HAUTE — Pianist Garnet Ungar will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 7 in the Recital Hall in Indiana State University’s Richard Landini Center for Fine and Performing Arts.

His program will feature composers such as Franz Liszt, Charles-Valentin Alkan, Felix Mendelssohn, Ferdinand Hiller and Chopin.

He will lead a free workshop, “Practicing Catalysts,” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 8 for area educators and ISU piano students in University Hall Theater.

Ungar was born in Québec, Canada, and earned degrees in piano performance from the Universities of Toronto, Calgary and Houston. He has appeared as a soloist and in chamber broadcasts on CBS and on Public Radio. His recording of the “Brahms Second Piano Concerto” is one of his most critically acclaimed performances. He also has performed in England, Sweden and Switzerland.

He is currently the associate professor of piano at the University of Evansville.
