Vigo County Historical Museum’s Holiday Open House is Sunday

TERRE HAUTE — The annual Holiday Open House at the Vigo County Historical Museum will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the museum at Sixth and Washington streets.

The Historical Society is celebrating its 90th birthday this year. For this occasion, a birthday cake with punch will be a part of the Open House and will be served to visitors.

Festive decorations of the season will fill the three exhibit floors. Expect Christmas trees covered with bright lights and ornaments, garlands enhancing the elaborate staircase in the entry hall, a Nativity display and holiday wreaths.

The Vigo County Historical Museum is housed in an elegant Italianate structure and is included in the Farrington’s Grove Holiday Home Tour. The home tour is planned from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Six historical homes will be featured on the tour, highlighting the variety of architectural detail found in the neighborhood.

The homes are at 1411 S. Sixth St. (the museum), 1429 S. Sixth St., 1444 S. Center, 1226 S. Fifth St., 1201 S. Sixth St. and 1200 S. Sixth St.

Tickets are $10 each and are available prior to the event at the museum. Tickets can also be purchased at each of the homes on the day of the event.
