Though just 15 years old, Marie McGlone just added to her growing list of musical accomplishments.
Last year, the young fiddler from Marshall, Ill., released her first album, “Listen to My Heart,” recorded in Nashville, Tenn. She played alongside several notable Music City musicians, including Cia Cherryholmes (of Grammy-nominated family band Cherryholmes) and fiddle ace Jim VanCleave.
Last month, McGlone added a state championship.
She took first place in the 11- to 19-year-old division of the Illinois State Fiddle Contest on Oct. 21 at Effingham’s Thelma Keller Convention Center, sponsored by the Illinois Old-Time Fiddlers Association.
McGlone was presented with the traveling trophy, which bears the names of past winners dating back to 1995.
She was accompanied by Wabash Valley bluegrass legend Louis Popejoy.
