Lobsterpalooza 2013, the annual fundraiser for the Indianapolis Opera, will be co-chaired this year by Indiana Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird and his wife, Dinah. The event is at 7 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Basile Opera Center, 4011 N. Pennsylvania St. in Indianapolis.
Lobsterpalooza is a casual evening of entertainment, live music and dining. The meal will include a traditional Maine lobster boil served with award-winning clam chowder, steamed clams, fresh vegetables and corn on the cob. The fresh Maine lobster, driven in live the night before, is so sweet and succulent that it practically melts in your mouth. Chicken dishes will also be available.
This event will take place rain or shine. Tickets are available at indyopera.org. Single tickets are $150, a table of eight costs $1,200, and both include free valet parking. Proceeds from the event benefit the Frank and Katrina Basile Opera Center.
Coming up, the Indianapolis Opera will take a new approach this season with a combination of modern operas, every production an IO debut. “The Threepenny Opera” will be Oct. 11-20, and “Amahl and the Night Visitors” will take place Dec. 6-17. Both will be at the Basile Opera Center.
