Brazil Concert Band closes season Sunday with ‘Favorites’

The Brazil Concert Band will present “Among Our Favorites Grand Finale 2013” with an intermission at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Forest Park, rain or shine.

Among those favorites from Broadway and Hollywood are “The Wizard of Oz,” “The King and I” and “The Music Man.”

The band will perform two favorite overture transcriptions, “The Poet and Peasant” and “Light Cavalry,” by Henry Fillmore from Austrian composer Franz von Suppe.

Trombonist and euphonium player Norman Hanson will solo in “Bolivar.” Hanson teaches at Northwest Sullivan Schools and is a fixture in many bands and orchestras in the Wabash Valley.

Patriotic favorites will sound forth in “Irving Berlin a Symphonic Portrait” and “The Blue and the Gray.”

March lovers will hear several favorites with “His Honor,” “The Footlifter,” “Supreme Triumph,” “Shrine of Liberty,” “Semper Fidelis” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

The Sudler Award-winning band’s next performance will be Nov. 24 at the Terre Haute Scottish Rite Theater.
