Butler Opera Theatre will present Aaron Copland’s opera “The Tender Land” April 5 through 7 at the Howard L. Schrott Center for the Arts on the Butler University campus, 610 W. 46th St., in Indianapolis.
“The Tender Land,” with music by Copland and libretto by Horace Everett, is the story of a girl from a Midwest farm whose sheltered life is turned upside down when two itinerate farmers arrive seeking work. The opera is directed by Mark Gilgallon.
The music will be performed by a chamber orchestra, including 13 members from the Butler Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Auldon Clark.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. April 5 and 6, and 3 p.m. April 7. Tickets are $12 for adults and $5 for students and seniors (62 and older), available at butler.edu/schrott-center.
