Strassenfest April 24-26 marks beginning of spring

The traditional street festival Strassenfest marks the beginning of spring for Germans everywhere.

In Terre Haute, it will take place April 24-26 at the Clabber Girl Festival Marketplace at Ninth and Cherry streets. Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight on Thursday and Friday, and 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Admission is free.

Members of the German Oberlandler Club prepare and serve German and American foods; take-out is available. Coffee, soft drinks and beers, both domestic and imported, complete the menu.

The Alpen Echos from Cincinnati and the Jay Fox Bavarian Showtime Band from Fort Wayne will provide continuous music for dancing and listening from 4 p.m. to midnight each day.

The German Oberlandler Club was organized in 1967 to preserve German culture in the Wabash Valley. The thousands who enjoy a fun mix of German fellowship and Hoosier hospitality at its festivals help fund the club’s scholarship program and community projects.
