Aug. 9 event to raise funds for heart patient

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department will be staging a benefit, “Have a Heart for Kaylynn,” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday between the Vigo County jail and the courthouse.

A cookout and silent auction is planned along with a barbecue pulled pork dinner. Cost is $7.50 and includes choice of two side dishes, drink and dessert.

Kaylynn, 11 months, is the daughter of Correctional Officer Curtis Zehner. She is soon to undergo open-heart surgery to repair a hole in her heart.

The funds raised will go toward medical bills and travel expenses.
