The Cory Apple Festival is just around the corner — Sept. 27-29.
Featured meals at the firehouse include a pulled pork dinner, Jonah fish fry and chicken noodle dinner.
Events include a karaoke singing contest, golf scramble at Hoosier Hills, cornhole tournament, kiddie pedal tractor pull, kids’ games, car and motorcycle show, Fatboy Dan’s Redneck Lawn Mower Derby, garden tractor pull, parade and entertainment.
The Bad Apple Saloon will feature a beer garden and live music all weekend.
All around town there will be crafts, flea markets, antiques, yard sales and food booths.
Booth space is still available for anyone interested in having a craft, flea market or antique stand. To reserve a spot, contact Lana Hendrix at 812-864-2229.
Assistance with serving, preparing or cleanup for the pulled pork dinner, fish fry or chicken noodle dinner would be appreciated. Those interested may stop in at the firehouse to be put to work. Donations of pies from area bakers, to be sold along with the meals during the weekend, are also requested.
The Queen (ages 15-18), Princess (ages 11-14), Little Miss (ages 7-10) and Little Princess (ages 4-6) pageants will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cory Zion Church.
Hoosier Hills Golf Course will sponsor a golf scramble with awards, starting at 9 a.m. Sept. 28. Contact Hoosier Hills to register early at 812-864-2304.
A cornhole tournament will begin at 1 p.m. that day. Registration will begin at noon.
Also Sept. 28, the car and motorcycle show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Judging will be at 2 p.m. and awards presented at 4 p.m. Cash drawings will take place every half hour and DJ music will play all afternoon. Pre-registration is $8. All pre-registered entrants will receive a T-shirt, dash plaque and entry into a drawing for a free registration for the 2014 show.

Additionally, Fat Boy Dan’s Redneck Lawn Mower Derby will be back again this year. It will be on the main festival grounds from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 28. Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon.
Anyone interested in participating in the derby should be 18 years of age and bring their own helmet and lawn mower, along with a $25 registration fee. A women’s powder puff derby is also scheduled. There is no entry fee for this event; the first three places will win trophies.
