Author/illustrator twin sisters to visit Marshall Public Library

MARSHALL, Ill. — Deborah Ruddell grew up in a small Illinois town, the oldest of five children. From day one, she had her twin sister, Robin Luebs, at her side.

They shared a room, matching clothes, and (to their mother’s dismay) a deep devotion to the leisure arts: daydreaming, doodling and watching the world go by.

Today, the pair still share a creative passion — Ruddell as a children’s poet and Luebs as an author and illustrator of children’s books.

The two sisters co-produced “Who Said Coo?,” a young children’s book written by Ruddell and illustrated by Luebs. They both remark that working on a book together fulfilled a longtime dream and that they’d welcome the chance to collaborate again.

“I’m having the time of my life writing and illustrating books for children,” Luebs said.

“Every once in a while I look at this book with our two names on the cover, and I can’t believe it actually happened,” Ruddell said.

This author/illustrator pair will give a program and book signing at Marshall Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 18. Children and adults are welcome. There will be no books for sale at the program; however they may be purchased online in advance and brought to the signing.

Ruddell is author of the critically acclaimed poetry collections “Today at the Bluebird Café” and “A Whiff of Pine, A Hint of Skunk.” Read more about her at

Luebs is author of “Please Pick Me Up, Mama!” and “How Do You Say Goodnight?” Check out Luebs’s illustrations and books online at
