Westfield, Ill.’s Improvement League is planning its annual Christmas Carnival for Sunday.
Festivities will begin at 3 p.m. and include a soup supper, kids games, Santa, a 50-50 drawing, bake sale, silent auction and vendors. Interested vendors can contact Kim Fouty at 217-967-5351.
The league is also staging a holiday decorating contest. All houses with lights in town will be judged. Categories are Best Overall, $25; Most Original, $15; and Best Traditional, $15. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m. at the Christmas Carnival. Judging will be Friday or Saturday. Homeowners are asked to leave lights on until 10 p.m.
The league uses funds raised for community improvement projects which have included entrance signs for the village. The group also has donated to assist with repairing the gym roof, roofing the park pavilion, replacing the band stand railing and remodeling the park kitchen.
It has set a goal of setting up a community fund through the South Eastern Illinois Community Foundation, which provides a way for funds to be invested to allow there to be ongoing funds for community projects.
Anyone in Westfield is invited to get involved with the group. It meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month in the Westfield Fire Station.
