Kayak on Lake Kickapoo during free Paddlefest

News Release

---- — The Friends of Shakamak are sponsoring a free Paddlefest at 2 p.m. on Saturday on Lake Kickapoo in Shakamak State Park.

The annual event gives experienced and new paddlers the opportunity to learn how to paddle a kayak on flat water. Dinah Fuller will provide basic instruction on the safety and operational characteristics of kayaks. A group paddle across the lake will take place.

Kayaks provided for the event are “sit on top” kayaks, so participants should plan on getting slightly wet.

Lifejackets, kayaks, paddles and instruction are all provided, but paddlers are instructed to bring their own hat, sunscreen and change of clothes. Water and a camera are also recommended.

Experienced kayakers are welcome and encouraged to bring their own craft. For more information, call 812-665-2158.
