Opening reception Friday for ‘Mud Musings’

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State University’s Community School of the Arts is scheduled to host an opening reception for an art exhibition from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday in the Gallery Lounge of ISU’s Hulman Memorial Student Union.

The exhibition titled, “Mud Musings,” consists of sculpture created by participants in the spring semester adult ceramics classes.

The goal of these classes, taught by Kira Kalondy, ISU assistant professor of ceramics, was for students to learn fundamentals of working with clay as an artistic medium.

“Students used methods on and off the potter’s wheel to create and design vessels and sculptures,” according to a press release. “Participants had the opportunity to work with hand building techniques such as coil building, slab building and mold making, some of which were used in combination with wheel-thrown forms.”

Participating in the exhibition are local and regional art educators and artists: Pamela Anshutz, Angela Arehart, April Badger, Penny Burley, Cathleen Hogan, Beth Hoke, Larry Jones, Craig Ketner, Kara Kish, Roberta Marietta, Katherine McLean, Judy Ohmit, Karen Page, Jean Testa-Davis, Connie Turner and Cathy Warner.

The exhibit began Tuesday and lasts until May 17. Gallery hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
