Golf Ball Drop debuts at Sheriff’s Shootout

TERRE HAUTE — This year, for the 22nd Annual Sheriff’s Shootout, Hamilton Center on Friday is hosting its first Golf Ball Drop. CEO Mel Burks and honorary co-chair, Vigo County Sheriff Greg Ewing, have joined forces with Fire Chief Jeff Fisher of the Terre Haute Fire Department so participants can win $5,000 and support early childhood development.

Only 500 golf balls will be sold, and there will be a guaranteed winner. Visit and select “Sponsor” to enter and for rules.

Tee times for the Sheriff’s Shootout, to be played at Rea Park, are still available for 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., for teams and singles, with lunch by Rick’s Smokehouse and Grill.

The sheriff’s teams will play again this year, in the morning flight for county bragging rights, and the travelling trophy, won last year by Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department.

Early Bird morning Teams are $400; $100 for singles. Afternoon teams are $500; $150 for singles.

Cost is $20 to enter to win $5,000 to support early childhood development programs and services for infants and toddlers up to age 3. Call 812-231-8365.

Hamilton Center’s division of Child & Adolescent Services receives all net proceeds from this golf tournament, according to a press release. CAS supports children and families who need behavioral health services; many of these children are victims of child abuse and neglect and the majority of the families benefiting for this event are at or below the poverty level.
