Musician with Terre Haute ties to host new Celtic radio program

Indianapolis musician Dave Bagdade is hosting a new radio program, “Kitchen Party Ceilidh,” now airing on WITT-FM 91.9 at 8 p.m. every Friday.

Bagdade, an award-winning author and Celtic musician, is producer and host of the show, which will also be available for online listening and podcasting.

Bagdade also plays mandolin for Terre Haute band Diamond Hill Station.

“Kitchen Party Ceilidh” will feature Celtic music from Ireland and also Scotland, Cape Breton, Wales, Galicia and the United States.

“Not surprisingly, when people think about Celtic music,” Bagdade said, “they think mainly of Ireland, but it is truly played all over the world.”

There is a significant social aspect to Celtic music, reflected in Bagdade’s name for the program.

“The term ‘ceilidh’ refers to an Irish or Scottish social gathering featuring music, dancing and stories,” Bagdade said, “while a kitchen party is sort of the East Coast Canadian version — a lot of people gathering in someone’s house and pushing the furniture to one side, with the musicians congregating on one side of the room and the dancers crossing the floor.”
