Parke Players to present ‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’

ROCKVILLE — Parke Players will present “Puttin’ On The Ritz: 100 Years Of Entertainment At The Ritz Theater” during the 2013 Parke County Maple Syrup Fair. The production will feature musical numbers from popular summer musicals, topical Broadway comedy, a tribute to 100 years of Hollywood motion pictures, live music from Jack Shannon and a 1913 Mack Sennett silent film thriller.

“Puttin’ On The Ritz” will be presented at 7 p.m. on March 1-2 at the Ritz Theater in Rockville. All seats are $7, and the doors open at 6 p.m.

Among the musical numbers will be songs from “South Pacific,” “Nunsense,” “Grease,” “Fiddler On The Roof,” “Annie” and “The Wizard of Oz.” Don Collins and Linda Sparger recreate “I’m Herbert,” one of the four one-act stories from the Broadway hit “You Know I Can’t Hear You When The Water’s Running,” from the late 1960s.

The 1913 silent movie will be Barney Oldfield’s “Race For A Life,” starring Mabel Normand, Ford Sterling, Sennett and legendary race driver Oldfield. The film features early slapstick, classic melodrama and the earliest chase scene between a steam locomotive and an automobile on film, and includes a live piano score created by Andy Snowden.
