The first Follies event was presented to an enthusiastic audience on July 30, 2005, by a lineup of more than a dozen entertainers. In January of 2009, the Winter Follies show was added to the Parke Players season. Proceeds from all Ritz Follies events go toward the continuing operation and maintenance of the Ritz Theater as well as aid in the completion of planned improvement projects. This year’s proceeds will go toward the servicing of stage technical systems.
The historic Rockville landmark celebrated its 100th anniversary as Parke County’s premier entertainment venue in 2012. Throughout the year, the Parke County Community Foundation spearheaded a very successful fundraising campaign to help with the continuing restoration of the century old former opera house. The theater has undergone extensive renovation since 1999 with the latest improvement being the installation of a state-of-the-art digital projector and surround sound system in the cinema in November. Hollywood has already ended the production of many motion pictures on 35mm celluloid film and will end the production of film prints altogether in 2013.
All seats are $7 and the doors open at 6 p.m. For additional information about the Parke Players and the Ritz Theater as well as schedules for all movie and stage events, visit www.parkeplayers.com.
