‘Ride for a Purpose’ to raise awareness of cancer patients

TERRE HAUTE — Happiness Bag Inc., will be hosting “Ride for a Purpose,” a fundraising event to raise awareness of and support for cancer patients with treatment and associated costs, at 6 p.m. on July 9 at 3833 Union Road.

Steve Alexander, a former director of Happiness Bag and Terre Haute YMCA, was diagnosed in 2012 with multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable blood plasma cancer.

Through his experience with cancer treatments, Alexander became aware of the extensive travel, lodging, parking and food costs involved with treatment, in addition to medical care.

Beginning in July, Alexander will begin a 6,000-mile journey to raise awareness and support for multiple myeloma. Other motorcycle riders will accompany him and will be asked to donate $15 to join the ride, $25 for a rider with a passenger.

All proceeds will be donated to Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute and will help patients with all types of cancer, not just multiple myeloma.

The ride will include stops at YMCAs and Harley Davidson dealerships to educate the public on multiple myeloma and rally support to help cancer patients pay for the additional financial burden.

At the Happiness Bag event, there will be food, games, raffles and music and karaoke by Ms. Nancy. For more information, contact, call 812-234-8867 or visit
