Skateboarding event to raise money for park

TERRE HAUTE — On-board United Initiative (OUI), a skateboarding community action group, is hosting a fundraiser for the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at Voorhees Park at Voorhees Street and Prairieton Road.

Friday is National Go Skateboarding Day.

Raffles will be conducted hourly for donated items from area skateboarding shops and bike shops. There will be live music, skateboarding, BMX biking, pre-printed and customizable T-shirts, T-shorts and patches sales.

OUI will use proceeds to fund future improvements at the Voorhees Park skatepark.

The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department has recently installed a water fountain and completed other maintenance projects.

The fundraiser is free and open to all ages.

Raffles will begin at noon.

OUI is a new group of skateboarders that wishes to promote awareness of Voorhees Park.

OUI hopes to establish a positive and continuing relationship within the skateboarding community and the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department.
