Bridgeton bustling with activity during Quilt and Woodworking Show

Bridgeton is scheduling its 10th annual Quilt and Woodworking Show and its first Tractor and Riding Mower Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The 1878 Barn will host the Quilt Show. Quilts are hand-stitched and machine-stitched, some new and some grandma’s antiques. Visitors can see live quilting demonstrations and vote for their favorites.

In Collom’s General Store, members of the International Woodworkers Association will be at work. You can see chainsaw artist Dan Collom, along with bowl carvers, pin turners and wood lathes in operation.

The Tractor & Riding Mower Show includes a Tractor Pull from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Events planned for both Saturday and Sunday include: a parade through the village at 1:30 p.m., a scavenger hunt through town, tractor games from 10 a.m. to noon and mower games from from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Covered Bridge Antique Power Association, and registration is free.

The Community Yard Sale will be under way from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Bridgeton Country Barn. Several yard sales are scheduled around town.

Plenty of food choices available. Admission is free, along with parking.

You can take a scenic drive through hills and valleys in southern Parke County to reach Bridgeton, which  is 10 miles south of Rockville. Or take Indiana 59 North from Brazil to the Bridgeton sign and turn left, or travel east of Rosedale six miles and follow the signs. For more information, call 765-548-2136.

    Indiana State University is planning a colorful kickoff event for the 2014-15 school year.
    The university is bringing The Color Run to Terre Haute on Aug. 23. One of the largest event series in the nation, the race douses participants from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. Billed as the “happiest 5K on the planet,” the event caters to everyone — first-time runners to professional athletes — and has no winners or official times.
