All Valley artists encouraged to submit art at Vigo County Fair

TERRE HAUTE — Artists from throughout the Wabash Valley are encouraged to submit works to the 84th Vigo County Fair, which will take place July 7-15 at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds.

The Fine Arts Department is in the air-conditioned Floriculture/Community Center Building at the fairgrounds. Artwork should be delivered between 8 and 11:30 a.m. July 6. There is no entry fee. Artists do not have to live in Vigo County.

Many themes will be represented, but this year would be ideal to submit paintings reflecting a river theme or life on a river to celebrate the 2013 Year of the River community initiative.

The art is judged in two categories in each division. There are three separate divisions: Professional, Amateur and Junior. Professional status consists of artists who show and sell their art; amateurs are artists who show but do not normally sell their art.

Junior artists are under the age of 18.

An independent judge will award ribbons and prizes. Ribbons are given for first, second and third place; there’s one Award of Merit, and the Champion award, which consists of a ribbon and cash prize.

Categories:

Category I Painting — Acrylic, Oil and Watercolor.

Category II Drawing — Pencil, Ink, Chalk or Marker.

Fine Arts entries must be original work entered by the artist. All pictures must be framed or on stretchers and wired for hanging.
