Valley students showcase talents at Children’s Art Exhibition in Illinois

CHARLESTON, Ill. — The 31st Children’s Art Exhibition is currently on view at the Tarble Arts Center, Eastern Illinois University, through May 26.

Conducted annually, the exhibition features two- and three-dimensional art by area students in grades K-12 and provides an opportunity for area art teachers to showcase their programs. Schools from throughout east-central Illinois are participating in this year’s exhibition, which includes 318 works from 46 schools.  

Area districts and schools participating this year are: Altamont C.U. District No. 10; Arcola Elementary and High schools; Arthur Elementary; Casey-Westfield Junior High and High schools; Central A&M C.U. District No. 21, Assumption-Moweaqua; Central Grade School, Effingham; Charleston C.U. District No. 1; Crestwood C.U. District No. 4, Paris; Cumberland High School; Edgar County C.U. No. 6; Effingham Junior High and High Schools; Kansas Community School; Oakland C.U. District No. 5; Mattoon C.U. District No. 2; Neoga Middle and Junior-Senior High schools; Okaw Valley Elementary, Middle, and High schools, Bethany-Findlay; South Side School, Effingham; St. Anthony Grade School, Effingham; St. John’s Lutheran School, Mattoon; St. Mary’s School, Paris; Sullivan High School; and Windsor Elementary and Junior-Senior High schools.

All area schools with an art curriculum taught by a certified art teacher are invited to participate. A reception and awards program is scheduled for Saturday, with certificates presented in three ceremonies at 1:30, 2:15, and 3 p.m. The students’ art teachers will notify families of participating artists with the time of their awards program.

The Tarble Arts Center is on south Ninth Street at Cleveland Avenue on the Eastern Illinois University campus. Open hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The center is closed Mondays.
