MARSHALL, ILL. —
A good book is a window into another place, another time, another life. Join the Marshall Public Library’s summer reading journey, “Have Book Will Travel!”
Sign up for the program beginning on May 20 and travel with a book or through a book this summer. Reading incentives and a wide variety of programs are planned for all ages.
Fill in a reading bookmark by reading 100 minutes and earn a chance to spin the prize wheel. Children who turn in at least four bookmarks will be invited to a reward program and to choose honor books in their name for the library.
Activities and programs are planned for ages infant through adult. Start the journey with the Summer Reading Street Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 29. Enjoy sidewalk chalk drawing, face painting, snow cones and more.
Weekly activities include a Toddler Time (ages 0-3) and a Summer Movie at the Library (all ages), both on Tuesdays, plus “Craftivity” for Kids (ages 6 and up) on Thursday afternoons. Teens will enjoy a couple of Teen Movie Nights on Fridays in June and an independent reading of “War Horse” with a discussion and activities. A young adult author, AG Howl, will visit and talk about her books on June 13.
Wednesday programs include comedy magician Richard Landry and his rabbit Snowball on June 12. “Journey Down the National Road” will include a trip to Harlan Hall to see the National Road Museum on June 5. “Animal Athletes” by the staff of the Douglas Hart Nature Center (ages 5-12) is on June 19, and participants (ages 6 and up) will play “Oregon Trail” together on the big screen and eat trail mix on June 26.
In addition to reading for prizes, adults will get to “Take a Trip with a Mystery Book” by checking out a wrapped book. Join the Friends of the Library and attend its membership program. The library is also asking everyone who travels this summer to send the library a postcard. Address labels are available at the library.
The library is at 612 Archer Ave., in Marshall, Ill. For more information call 217-826-2535 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
