Pirates land at Shawnee Theatre

TERRE HAUTE — Shawnee Summer Theatre of Greene County will continue its 54th season today with “Treasure Island.”

Based on the adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, “Treasure Island” is a story of piracy on the tropical seas. It begins at an inn on the Devon coast of England in 1775 and quickly becomes a tale of treachery and mayhem, featuring legendary swashbucklers like Billy Bones; the sinister, two-timing Israel Hands; the brassy female pirate Anne Bonney; and the hideous form of evil incarnate, Blind Pew.

At the center of are Jim Hawkins, a boy who longs for adventure, and the infamous Long John Silver, who is a complex study of good and evil.

The cast features Jimmy Betts as Jim Hawkins, Aaron Campbell as Long John Silver, and Zane Sade, Kirk Koczanowski, Brandt Roberts, Bryson David Hoff, Heather Michele Lawler, Felicia Basanavicius, Mitchell Ferguson, Andrew Gehrlein and Mitch Brauer. “Treasure Island” is directed by Shawnee’s producing artistic director, Kevin Guthridge.

The play will run today to Sunday and July 25 to 28, with 8 p.m. performances Thursdays to Saturdays and 2 p.m. matinees on Sundays. Tickets are $14 for adults and $7 for children.
