Have a taste of German culture at 41st Oktoberfest downtown

TERRE HAUTE — The 41st Oktoberfest will bring a taste of German culture to downtown Terre Haute. The event, sponsored by the German Oberlandler Club, kicks off at 11 a.m. Sept. 5 with folk music by the Crossroads Brass. The festival continues Sept. 6 and 7 at the Clabber Girl Marketplace at Ninth and Cherry streets. Hours are 11 a.m. to midnight on Thursday and Friday, and 4 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. Admission is free.

Club members will prepare and serve German and American foods. Take-outs will be available. Coffee, soft drinks and beers, both domestic and imported, complete the menu.

Joe Polach and the St. Louis Express and Eddie Korosa Jr. and the Boys from Illinois will play nonstop music for listening and dancing each day, beginning at 4 p.m. and continuing to midnight. They will play country, old-time rock ’n’ roll, swing, traditional waltzes, polkas and the popular chicken dance.

Proceeds from the event, a tradition in Terre Haute since 1973, will help fund the scholarship program and other community projects supported by the club. For more information, visit www.terrehauteoberlandlerclub.org.
