Marshall church to host chili day Nov. 5

---- — Marshall First United Methodist Church will have its annual chili day on Tuesday. The church is at 702 Plum St., in Marshall, Ill.

The annual event, organized by the church’s United Methodist Women, has been in existence for many years. Breakfast, lunch and supper will be available in the church’s fellowship hall. Food can also be purchased for carry-out. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at the church office. A variety of baked goods, crafts and plants also will be available for purchase.

Breakfast will be served from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m., and includes a variety of entrees, juice and coffee for a freewill donation.

Lunch and supper will be served continuously from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The menus are the same: chili or broccoli cheese soup; ham salad, cheese spread or hot dog sandwich; desserts; and a choice of drink.

The adult meal will cost $8. A meal of a sandwich or soup, chips, dessert and drink will cost $4 for ages 10 and under. A la carte items are also available for $3.

The United Methodist Women will offer a selection of items for sale from the United Methodist Committee on Relief, including a variety of jewelry and scarves, as well as items for home decorating and gift-giving. These will be displayed for sale in the church library.

The UMCOR SERVV Consignment Catalog will also be available for those who wish to purchase other items. Purchases will directly support poor artisans and farmers in 33 countries.

The United Methodist Women are mission-oriented and raise the majority of their funds through the chili day.

The funds are used to help with many local, regional and global causes  including B.R.I.D.G.E., Cunningham Children’s Home, Baby Fold, Lighthouse Mission, M.A.Y.N., Marshall Food and Clothing Center, Power Lunch, Wesley Foundation, Project Backpack, Wounded Warrior, after-school tutoring and many others.
