Watch Walldogs paint mural during Marshall Autumn Festival

You can watch a mural come to life as four Walldog artists come to Marshall, Ill., to paint a picture on the side of the Genealogical Library, 521 Locust St., during Marshall’s annual Autumn Festival.

Walldogs are mural and sign artists from all over the globe. The painters, who specialize in the signs, call themselves “Walldogs” because back in the heyday of hand-painted advertising murals on barns and brick buildings, they “worked like dogs” in the summer heat on precarious perches. They have been all over Illinois painting murals, most recently in Kewanee, Ill.

As the festival beings on Sept. 20, downtown Marshall will turn the streetlights off as the Walldogs project and hand trace huge images on the building’s wall.

During the next four days, spectators can watch the artists bring flare, pop and color to the mural, and can enjoy the festivities.

The Marshall Autumn Fest kicks off Sept. 20 with a fish and chicken dinner at the VFW., 112 N. Fifth St.

Arts, crafts and food booths on the Clark County Courthouse Square open at 6 p.m. These booths, along with pony rides, will be offered all three days of the festival.

• 6 p.m. — Clark County Optimist Club Cake Walk, Sixth and Locust streets

• 6 p.m. — Autumn Fest Prince & Princess Coronation, Bandstand

• 6:30 p.m. — Marshall Mello Players, Phoenix Theatre

• 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. — Trouble & Company

• 8 to 9:30 p.m. — Lonely Street Productions

• 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. — Street Dance/Steven O’Rourke

Festivities kick off on Sept. 21 with a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Marshall High School Boosters Club from 6 to 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

Also on Sept. 21:

• 7 to 7:45 a.m. — Registration for 5K, 2-mile walk, at First Christian

• 7:45 a.m. — 2-mile walk

• 8 a.m. — 5K Run

• 11 a.m. — Parade

• Noon to 4 p.m. Wine tasting at Moe’s Liquor

• Noon — Chainsaw carving

• 12:30 p.m. — Talents Unlimited Gymnastics, bandstand

• 1:15 to 2:45 p.m. — Andy Anderson, Illusionists Magic Show

• 1 p.m. — Cornhole tournament, Fifth and Locust streets

• 2 to 3:45 p.m. — Ron and Jan Easter along with the Starlites

• 3 p.m. — Marshall Main Street Ball Drop

• 4 p.m. — Marshall Mello Players, Phoenix Theatre

• 4 to 7 p.m. — Masonic Lodge Spaghetti Dinner, 302 Sixth St.

• 6 p.m. — St. Mary’s Church Cake Walk, Sixth and Locust streets

• 6:30 p.m. — Marshall Mello Players, Phoenix Theatre

• 6 to 7 p.m. — The Blues Brothers

• 7:05 to 7:45 p.m. — Marie McGlone

Activities on Sept. 22 kick off with the Car and Truck Show registration from 7:30 a.m. to noon in front of Shore-Murphy Insurance on Archer Avenue.

• 11 to 3:30 p.m. — Chainsaw woodcarving

• 1 to 2:30 p.m. — Car and Truck Show judging
