Author Mike Mullin of Indianapolis is scheduled to visit Marshall (Ill.) High School and Marshall Junior High School on Sept. 26, ending the day with a public program at Marshall Public Library at 6:30 p.m.
Mullin’s visit is sponsored by Marshall Visiting Author Committee, and his is the 11th author appearance organized by this group since 2004.
Mullin’s debut novel, “Ashfall,” was named one of the top five young adult novels of 2011 by National Public Radio, a Best Teen Book of 2011 by Kirkus Reviews, and a New Voices selection by the American Booksellers Association.
In the book, 15-year-old Alex is home alone when the Yellowstone super-volcano erupts. His town collapses into a nightmare of darkness, ash and violence, forcing him to flee. He begins a harrowing trek in search of his parents and sister, who were visiting relatives 140 miles away.
“Ashfall” is the first book in Mullin’s trilogy; the second book is “Ashan Winter.” The third book, “Sunrise,” is due to be released in spring 2014.
At the author’s free evening public program, he will talk about writing the trilogy and answer questions. He will also sign copies following the program. Books will be available for purchase; hardback copies are priced at $15; paperbacks are $10.
