Dr. George T. Mitchell, or “Dr. George” as he was known in the area, was a well-loved physician who practiced nearly 60 years in Clark County, Ill., before he retired in 2005 at age 92. Friends of Marshall (Ill.) Public Library have both of Mitchell’s books for sale at the library’s circulation desk for $16 each.
The first of Mitchell’s two books, “Dr. George: An Account of the Life of a Country Doctor,” published in 1994, is an autobiography and has gone through three printings. He wrote his second book, “Memories and Reflections of a Country Doctor,” after he retired. This book was published in 2008 by his daughter Linda Miller following the author’s death. In the introduction, Mitchell writes, “In part, then, my Reflections is a gift back to the community that has given so much to me.”
