Author Greg Schwipps will discuss the influence of rivers on his writing from 5 to 6 p.m. Nov. 1 during the Brown Bag program in the Vigo County Public Library at Seventh and Poplar streets.
His novel, “What This River Keeps,” is about an elderly couple losing their farm to the government in an act of eminent domain.
“Their acreage borders a river, and the proposed dam will flood their land forever,” Schwipps explains. “While the specific events of the novel are fictional, I took pains to get the details of the river right — I wanted to accurately render that world on the page. I wanted to capture the attachment the characters felt for the river.
“The natural world matters in my fiction. In life, and in writing, I am drawn to water.”
During his talk, Schwipps will read a brief excerpt from the book and then talk about the role rivers have played in his life as a writer.
Information about WordFest will follow Schwipps’ presentation.
