Nearly 120 area individuals entered their photos in the 2013 TREES Inc. Photography Contest themed “Trees and the River” hoping to win one of nine cash prizes.
An awards ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Vigo County Public Library at Seventh and Poplar streets. The award-winning photos will remain on display in the library through Oct. 31.
The contest is separated into three categories: Youth, Adult Amateur and Adult Professional. The judges, a group of local experts in their field, awarded first, second and third place for each category. In the Youth division, Emily Padgett won first and second place, and Emily Haan was a third-place winner. Marty Jones won first place in the Adult Amateur division, Diana Ammerman won second place and Alice Beaman won third place. In the Adult Professional division, Debbie Goodin won first place with Brendan Kearns taking second place and Becky Hochhalter placing third. The judges also gave two “Honorable Mention” awards.
As part of 2013 Year of the River, a community-wide initiative to encourage river-focused activities and events, TREES Inc. chose “Trees and the River” as the 2013 theme. Photo entries must have included one or multiple trees, or part of a tree, and include part of a river. The photos currently exhibited at the library display several various aspects of rivers; from a summer’s drought to a white winter wonderland, as well as life on the river.
Entrants can pick up their photos from the Community Connections Department in the library between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from Nov. 1 through 15. Photos not claimed become the property of TREES Inc.
The contest is sponsored by TREES Inc., the Tribune-Star and the library. For more information call 812-232-1116.
