Shawnee says goodbye to one leader, welcomes another

The Shawnee Theatre in Bloomfield will say goodbye to current producing artistic director Kevin Lee Guthridge at the end of this year, and welcome Trey D. Rock to the position for the 55th season.

“I have been with the Shawnee Theatre for eight years now and, in that time, we have accomplished a great deal and had a lot of success,” Guthridge said.

“We have increased the overall technical quality of the productions, introduced a new website with online ticket sales, maintained a reasonable budget and low ticket prices, expanded the Children’s Theatre Education Program, and responded to the community desire to see more family entertainment on the stage with the introduction of a Kids’ Series and the Annual Variety Show.”

Rock was general manager for the 54th season. “He is innovative, attentive, professional, has a real understanding of the Greene County community, and a great ability to connect with their needs and the financial needs of the organization,” Guthridge said.

“Some of my goals for my time in Bloomfield are to improve technology in the theater and to pursue major grants for improvement of the facilities,” Rock said. “Some people don’t know that Shawnee was last renovated in 1999 — that will be 15 years coming into the 55th season.”

Shawnee Theatre is on U.S. 231, just south of Bloomfield. Call 812-384-3559 or visit www.shawneetheatre.org for tickets.
